Exenia Division

Exenia is a division of Separeco that deals with the development of processes that use CO2 in a supercritical state.
The group of researchers that is part of it contributed to creating the first research and development company in this sector in Italy about 30 years ago.
We help our customers fine-tune extraction, fractionation, micronization and chromatography processes, using high-pressure equipment and liquid or supercritical CO2 processes.

From extraction, to fractionation to micronization and chromatography, we can develop processes of all types for any matrix, identifying the process conditions, the correct preparation of the matrix and the secondary activities to be carried out after the main process.
Exenia offers its technology as well as its know-how in several fields, mainly in pharmaceutical, food and cosmetics industry. In the food industry, supercritical techniques are successfully applied for the extraction of natural essences, active ingredients, essential oils, flavourings and dyes, using the most up to date technology. Besides, Exenia operates in the pharmaceutical field for the production of controlled drug delivery systems starting from biocompatible polymers, encapsulation of drugs with biopolymers for a controlled release of the drug or to mask the drug taste, comminution of active principles to obtain micronic or sub-micronic powders having a narrow particles size distribution.
